:Medicine and history of pharmacy
The history of pharmaceuticals in the world is related to the establishment of the first pharmaceutical company in Germany. Merck was the first pharmaceutical company that was founded in Germany in 1668 as a pharmacy.
In 1841, the British Pharmaceutical Association was formed. This association oversaw the education of pharmacists to ensure the scientific foundation of the profession.
In the middle of the 19th century and in 1842, the world’s first medicine was registered. In England, King James I ordered that pharmacies be separated from grocers. In 1865, a British doctor and surgeon named Lister started using disinfectants in England. This person introduced phenol as a disinfectant. In the early 19th century, the smallpox vaccine was introduced to prevent deadly infectious diseases. In 1885, the rabies vaccine was also released by Pasteur.
Since then, the vaccination process has been implemented in the world and has been able to protect people’s lives from infectious and deadly diseases.
The period between 1918 and 1939 saw the pharmaceutical industry become what it is today.
In the history of pharmaceuticals, the post-World War II era is very important. During this era, socialized healthcare systems such as the UK’s National Health Service (NHS) gave Europe a more structured form of prescribing and reimbursement.

History of pharmaceuticals in Iran:
But the history of pharmaceuticals in Iran goes back centuries. Pharmacy in Iran is a combination of medical beliefs of Babylonians, Assyrians, inhabitants of the Mediterranean plains, as well as Greeks, Indians, Egyptians and ancient Iranians.
During the Qajar era, Iran had entered a very painful period in terms of health. Diseases such as typhus, plague and cholera led to the establishment of the Dar al-Funun School for the education and training of specialists in Iran during the era of Naser al-Din Shah and with the efforts of Amir Kabir.
Today, the pharmaceutical industry in Iran is considered one of the most developed industries in the Middle East, and the manufacturing of all kinds of industrial and traditional medicines is done by Iranian pharmacists.
